Pemphigus foliaceous - Equine dermatology
Dermatophilosis - Equine dermatology
Allergy - Equine dermatology

Horses and donkeys very frequently present skin diseases that justify a precise diagnosis and an adapted treatment.
Among the most common equine dermatoses one observes:

  • Allergies to insects (culicoïdes or summer scabies), to mites, moulds or pollens (atopy) and more rarely, to food...
  • Bacterial infections (staphylococcus, dermatophilus...), fungal infections (dermatophytosis or ringworm)...
  • Parasitic dermatoses: lice, chorioptic mange (foot scabies), etc.
  • Cutaneous tumours: equine sarcoids, carcinomas, melanomas, papillomas (warts)...
  • Skin nodules: eosinophilic nodules, infectious nodules (abscesses)...
  • Pigmentary anomalies: vitiligo...
  • Immune diseases: pemphigus foliaceus...

The diagnosis is based, as for all skin diseases, on a detailed clinical and dermatological examination. This will enable us to choose the complementary examinations to be used:

  • microscopic examinations (skin scrapings, cytology...)
  • skin biopsies
  • bacterial or fungal culture
  • intradermal test...

Dr Beco examines horses exclusively for dermatological problems. He always asks for the collaboration of your attending veterinarian.
